I wanted it to feel like being suspended in a void. Claustrophobic, abstract, slightly broken.

To get there, we shot on black-and-white Orwo 16mm film from the 1980s. Unforgiving stock, almost no exposure latitude, but incredible contrast. It forced a very specific way of lighting and framing — compressing space, flattening depth, and building that sense of pressure.

Despite its age, the film held up beautifully — giving the image a raw, unstable quality, reminiscent of  Darren Aronofsky’s Pi.
